The Art of the Day Job
Following up on Genevieve's article published last fall, participants in this interactive workshop will be invited to reflect on their individual journeys as musicians, including the challenges of maintaining an artistic career and identity in the face of often challenging economic circumstances. We will discuss the role of privilege in the arts, including exploring the concept of survivorship bias and how that has shaped both our institutions and, in many cases, our mindset. We will discuss concrete actions that can be taken to navigate career changes and unforeseen life events while still honoring one’s identity as an artist.

Christ Church Alexandria - Monday Concert Series
Join members of the DC Singer Collective as they present a concert dedicated to exploring the music that keeps us company and walks us through the ambiguity of the holiday season and our annual transition to winter. Tracing links to the origins of what is known as Advent in the Christian calendar, this intimate concert of unaccompanied vocal music will bring together works from a variety of traditions and viewpoints composed in different times and spaces in order to meditate on the connection between hope, ambiguity, and rest.
Free with suggested $10 donation– payable online or day of the concert.

The Plague of Love
Georgetown Concert Series
Members of DC Singer Collective and Campo delle stelle present a repeat performance of "The Plague of Love," featuring madrigals by Strozzi and Monteverdi. In a time & region where devastating plagues could be common and life was short, composers Claudio Monteverdi and Barbara Strozzi and the poets whose texts they set focused much of their artistic energy on love, depicting it alternately as torture, war, distraction, delight.
